Finding hope in hard places

A healthy relationship is where there is a consistent pattern of interactions in which each person takes responsibility for their own needs, honors one another and trust increases.

The healing journey is full of contradictions. When we decide to focus on healing and learning new ways to respond and live, it seems like things should get easier. But that’s not what happens.

Consequences of past choices may still cause pain and need attention to rectify. And it’s also possible it may never be resolved. Choosing to step away from relationships that cause harm may lead to more challenges such as restraining orders and learning to hold strong boundaries. These are never easy.

The other part of a healing journey that we are not prepared for is when tragedy strikes. As we know, life comes with heartache and loss, and for those with emotional margins, these moments are grieved, navigated, and well-being is found again. But for those who have been enduring trauma and are learning to build emotional reserves and take care of their needs, these moments of tragedy hit especially hard. There’s no room to grieve (more) or navigate (more), and while well-being is the goal, it is not yet realized.

In our 20 years of providing support for women, we know that it is just a matter of time before they experience loss so deep that their recovery may be hanging by a thread. The time previously spent building trust and a healthy relationship with one of our team members will be the foundation that she can stand on when she believes everything has been destroyed once again.

We are WITH HER to remind her that…

…she is not alone
…she has come so far
…she has the tools to care for herself
…she is still on the healing journey
…she has help to keep pursuing well-being.

With the support of trauma-trained Support Specialists, she builds resilience and discovers hope once again.

Trust is the firm belief that someone is reliable to consistently respect me both in their words and actions regardless of circumstances or who else is around.
